Ymodem is a toolkit to write tools implementing the YModem protocol for serial transmission of data. A modem acts as a virtual terminal of the serial line and opens up a command shell to the host machine. Ymodem can be used for both ASCII and 8 bit modem mode. The packets of data are treated as shell commands and are executed by the target machine.

The Savage Mountain

When the staccato guitar break blared out of the speakers at the concert, I was unsure whether to head for the air-conditioned section or the closest exit.

I suppose that I would have been very glad to have been at the University of Toronto, or anywhere else, on the night of April 6, 2008.

Yet, I was glad to be at the Yonge Street campus of the University of Alberta, near the Weyerhaeuser Bowering campus in Edmonton, that particular night.

It was no ordinary concert.

“Savage Mountain,” the band, played a riveting set to a whooping and hollering crowd, many of them carrying wild posters with the face of Roch Voisine, a famous Canadian musician from Quebec City.

I was lucky enough to speak with Voisine in the years following his suicide. And, I will always remember that night in Edmonton as a turning point in his life.

Voisine had been an active member of this band, for a few years before the concert, and he found a certain peace among the band, as well as the audience.

The night in Edmonton, he finally felt that he had left behind his demons.

While at a microphone, the band was asked to take a break. I felt as if they paused to give a token of respect to their late leader.

I wondered what Voisine would think of his legacy. After all, during his life he was a kind and considerate person, while in his music he strove for the highest levels of passion.

Many who knew him will remember that he loved jazz music and that he was a jazz singer in his youth.

Like most artists, he lived a complex life. In recent years, he created this small and tight group of dedicated musicians who never forgot their roots in Quebec City.

I recently spent some time with the musicians, who still live in Quebec City, and I realized that they still work a lot with young people.

I would like to thank the band, as well as their manager, for their time and for their patience.
